About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. Duties

Assist in the preliminary examination of patients prior to their evaluation by the optometrist by performing a variety of screening and technical procedures. Maintain production records and prepare any required reports. Instruct employees in new procedures and provide ongoing guidance for problem/unusual cases. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 20 lbs. in the regular performance of duties
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includesdirect patient care as an optometry or ophthalmology technician and operating ophthalmic equipment such as an auto-refractor, tonometer, lensometer, topographer, visual field, Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT), fundus camera, and other ophthalmic equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
