Duties

The incumbent will perform simple, routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities including. Operating light trucks to transport materials and equipment to park facilities. Performing routine maintenance such as janitorial, minor carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work to public use areas and administrative facilities. Assisting higher graded maintenance workers to accomplish jobs including safely using and maintaining simple hand tools and handheld power tools. The incumbent will also be required to be an active member of the parks Hazardous Response Team. Padre Island National Seashore was established in 1962 to protect the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world, and the park's more than 130,000 acres host a rich variety of cultural and natural resources. Located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre, Padre Island contains coastal prairie, wetland, and wind tidal flat habitats. Recreational opportunities include saltwater fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, and birding. The park is located approximately 25 miles southeast of the city of Corpus Christi, Texas (population of the metropolitan area is approximately 430,000), 170 miles southeast of San Antonio, and 240 miles southwest of Houston. Corpus Christi has all the amenities of a small city, including a wide variety of housing, shopping, and recreational opportunities, including an aquarium, museums, sporting events, concerts, and botanical gardens. Several school districts, hospitals, and universities/colleges are located within 30 miles of the park boundary.
