Duties
You will install, align, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and maintain various types of nonproduction industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems
You will disassemble and repair general industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems.
You will weld a variety of metals and alloys.
You will use a variety of manual welding processes, e.g., several different gas torch processes, to weld all types of metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses, including dissimilar metals such as copper to steel
You will use arc processes which use methods such as gas metal-arc, gas tungsten-arc, gas carbon arc, plasma-arc, and atomic hydrogen welding.
You will interpret blueprints, determine welding position, and type of metal to be fused.
You will be responsible for selecting and setting up welding equipment.
You will ensure welds meet standards and engineering design drawings and specifications.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position requires exposure to high noise levels.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. You must have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Welding using oxyacetylene, electric arc and other welding techniques on various metals flat, round stock and piping, and metal fabrication using shears and metal breaks to fabricate ductwork, flashing and other job specific applications; 2) Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical fundamentals used in order to effectively service and repair various types of mechanical equipment to include air compressors reciprocal and screw type, air dryers, pumps, motor controllers and related equipment; and 3) Performing visual checks of boilers, heating and air conditioning systems to determine causes of defects on equipment.
