The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the 805 CTS Configuration Manager, responsible for planning, coordinating, and documenting installation, testing, troubleshooting, modifications, upgrades, operation and maintenance of hardware/software systems. Provides technical advice to senior leadership, and technical assistance.
Duties
Performs network services as a configuration manger and senior systems administrator.
As a senior IT specialist, performs feasibility studies on complex information systems and conducts in-depth analyses complicated by novel problems.
Serves as Alternate Program Manager for 805 CTS network enclaves, ensuring the information systems within the organization are properly secured and configured prior to being placed into operation and throughout the systems' lifecycle.
Keeps abreast of emerging technology to predict future network needs.
As a senior IT specialist and configuration manager, participates in management discussions, meetings, committees, or special projects.

Program. Incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- Incumbent must be eligible for a TS/SCI security clearance (Special Compartmented Information).
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment.
- This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
- A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may resulting removal from this position.
- This position has been designated as IAT Level II, Security+ Certification.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a full range network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements; knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols typically found at base level; knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems; knowledge of complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methods, and practices for
integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer network
systems, and optimize system performance. This position requires network/system configuration and
change management experience.
2. Knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and
protocols typically found at base level.
3. Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
4. Knowledge of complex configuration management and project management techniques, and requirements
appropriate to managing complex network systems.
5. Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess information, plan the
sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, and solve a variety of network problems; and to
analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an
operational perspective.
6. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can
meet future requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
