About the Position: Position serves as full deputy to the Director of Correctional Programs consisting of the United Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) and the Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility (JRCF) with responsibility for fully assisting in planning, directing, coordinating and supervising all matters pertaining to vocational programs, educational programs, recreational programs and non-appropriated fund activities.
Duties
Provide advice on all aspects of the military corrections system.
Review and revise institutional policies, regulations and standing operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain such compliance.
Conduct special reviews of existing programs to determine compliance with regulatory standards and furnishes technical advice to facilities concerning institutional policies.
Monitor changes in policies, procedures, and operations.
Requirements

- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the employee to undergo screening for tuberculosis prior to entry on duty and annually thereafter.
- This position requires the employee to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.

Experience Requirement: Experience must demonstrate the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully. This includes (1) understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions; (2) a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures; and (3) training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives. This experience must have been gained in an administrative position, or in other positions that included the successful direction, or assistance in the direction of, an entire correctional program or a major phase of such a program.
You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service which includes assisting with the direction and/or coordination of vocational training, educational programs and/or recreational programs within a correctional facility.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring a correctional institution's policies, regulations, and procedures for compliance with higher level directives and implementing changes to meet requirements.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
*Note: All applicants must meet specialized experience and time in grade requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
