This position is for a Metal Forming Machine Operator assigned to the West Point Mint, Office of Production. As a Metal Forming Machine Operator, you will be responsible for a variety of processes used in the making of circulated/uncirculated precious metal, gold, silver, palladium, and platinum, and other metals, coins and medals (domestic or foreign).

Duties

As a Metal Forming Machine Operator, you will: Apply specialized skills, methods, procedures, and techniques to monitor and operate complex coin presses, rolling mills to press scrap metal and defective coins into sheet metal, upsetting mills, and other production and support machinery associated with the coin manufacturing industry Monitor operation on presses, observe instrument panels, listen for deviations in normal rhythm and sounds and take appropriate action to prevent mechanical failure and assure meeting high quality standards for completed coins Select coins to determine acceptability, stop presses when a defect is found and take steps to determine cause Be responsible for inspecting blanks before insertion into collars; the finished product is visually inspected for common flaws (e.g., cracks, piece out, dirt, lint, press shifts, etc.) and overall appearance Use automated data collection systems and any computerized automated systems associated with presses and other coin production machinery
