You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER in the Waterfront Production and Self Help Branch (Code 900F.11) ofNORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will inspect, operate, test, preserve or diagnose problems associated with work in the Production Temporary Facilities, Self Help, and Job Readiness Cell programs. You will take appropriate action to prevent and/or overcome bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns, assure that proper types and amounts of equipment are available. You will maintain records of expended man-hours, close outs, review and document jobs when complete. You will lead a minimum of three employees performing at the WG-10 level and pass on work instructions received from supervisors on getting work started. You will demonstrate proper work methods and provide training to workers under you leadership.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• The position often requires irregular hours.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Ability To Lead with the skill and knowledge to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints. Ability To Lead others with the proper use of tools and equipment common to the trade. Ability To Lead and demonstrate skills and knowledge in the safety precautions, principals, and work methods associate with a maintenance mechanic.
