You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety Division of MARFORCOM NORFOLK.

Duties

You will serve as the aviation safety technical expert for the Ground Safety Manager (GSM) and the Director of Safety. You will coordinate aviation safety issues that arise between the operating forces, support staff, and policy governing bodies. You will evaluate a variety of complex, interrelated physical conditions, operating practices, hazardous human machine interaction, and serious mishaps. You will coordinate ground safety issues between the operating forces, support staff, and policy governing bodies. You will be required to attend or re-attend the Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) course if you have not worked in the field for over 4 years.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Managing aviation safety program elements. 2) Developing and recommending safety policy to higher levels of management. 3) Applying knowledge of aviation safety to determine compliance with established policies and regulations to advise leaders. 4) Developing safety or occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. 5) Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of aviation accidents. 6) Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established aviation safety or occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.
