About the position: This position will be assigned to the Buckner Fitness Center Pool or Elmendorf Fitness Center Pool on JBER, AK.
Duties
Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swi111ming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, main pools, pool decks, etc.
Ensures the safe operation of the pool, it filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test.
Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21

Requirements
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC).
- Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Must have an approved and current certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR training. Individual must have or receive this certification prior to or within the first 30 days of job.

Qualifying Experience:
For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Individual must have or receive this certification prior to or within the first 30 days of employment. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (!RC). Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employrnent physical.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
