This position is located in the Federal Research Division, Library Enterprises Directorate, Chief Operating Officer. The position description number for this position is 057188. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. This is a non-supervisory, non-bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.

Duties

Receives manuscripts from numerous Division technical information specialists and contractors, subject only to prior review by subject matter experts. Reviews and decides the material to accept and what to question in regard to manuscripts submitted in response to client agency requirements. Edits each new study or report, including those incorporated into Division websites, for adequacy, accuracy, consistency, logical flow, clarity, readability, style, format, and overall presentation. As necessary, rewrites or makes suggestions to authors on how to rewrite or reorganize portions of the manuscript. Ensures value judgments and bias are eliminated, that discrepancies and ambiguities are resolved, that materials are well organized, that conclusions are logical, and that supporting documentation is appropriately formatted and incorporated.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of editing.** Ability to edit materials for publication.** Ability to provide editorial feedback.** Ability to write, review and edit written materials containing complex information for a variety of audiences.** Ability to use information technology to perform writing duties. Ability to communicate effectively in writing. Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
