About the Position: Serves as training instructor/writer for Military Occupational Skill (MOS) 92M (Mortuary Affairs Specialist). Responsible for analysis, design, and development of instructional materials in all curriculum, to include entry level enlisted courses and in-house refresher technical training to all assigned training personnel. Plans, directs, and coordinates training of military and civilian personnel in all areas of Program of Instruction (POI).

Duties

Prepares and conducts programmed and un-programmed instructions for all DOD-directed courses. Presents instruction in 92M (Mortuary Affairs Specialist) subjects through the use of conferences, demonstrations, practical exercises, tactical field exercises, morgue observation and/or audio-visual presentations. Counsels and advises personnel regarding logistics support training and acts as consultant on logistics training matters. Presents lectures and demonstrations regarding safety and workmanship precautions and enforces safety, security, and environmental regulations. Performs independent research and makes recommendations for development and revision of instructional materials and exportable training products or for introduction of new educational technology.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes instructing courses in the basic, advanced and theoretical principles and techniques of the receipt, screening and shipment of human remains with data entry and accountability of personal effects utilizing precaution and personal protective equipment in the receipt, inventory storage and shipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
