The incumbent services as the Medical Staff Coordinator for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and is responsible for the centralized Credentialing and Privileging Program for the Medical Staff at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, and Community Based Outpatient Clinics in South Carolina and Georgia. Incumbent will be assigned to the Chief of Staff Service.
Duties
Major Duties include but are not limited to:
Keeps leadership and administrative staff informed of program changes, new regulatory
requirements, and policies and procedures.
Assists in drafting local credentialing processes in compliance with all applicable regulations
Provides guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation
of establishing privileges for Licensed Independent Providers.
Responsible for collecting relevant data and making informed decisions
Enters data into an electronic credentials computer system.
Assures application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider and assures application folder and database account.
Advises and consults on credentialing and clinical privileging for the organization.
Provides assistance and training to providers, staff and management.
Prepares agendas for meetings and ensures those involved are notified of expectations.
Receives and reviews reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation.
Provides quality control checks on data.
Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act.
All other duties as assigned
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:30pm- 4:00pm

Qualifications

GS 11 Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 9 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Thorough knowledge of all credentialing and privileging regulations, standards, etc. for the appointment/reappointment of all medical staff members, including appointments of other health care professionals in the medical center; Thorough knowledge of procedures for delineation/ renewal of clinical privileges for the medical center and thorough knowledge of the scope of practice for other health care professionals; Thorough knowledge of Joint Commission standards, VAHQ circulars and directives, and local policies regarding credentialing and privileging; 8. Ability to recognize opposing views and biases in the credentialing process; Extensive knowledge of medical services including knowledge of how the Academic Partnership Council (APC), the CEB, and all Professional Standards Boards function together and are an integral part of the credentialing and privileging process. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 2 years of Doctorial education.
(To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond 1 year or doctoral education beyond two years by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)
