About the Position: The Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS) directs, coordinates and synchronizes installation garrison operations, training support, protection, mobilization & demobilization, force modernization, operational planning, and security in order to support the Soldiers, Families and Civilians.

Duties

Work is performed in a military Air Traffic Control Station (facility) serving as the central point of operational control for military exercises conducted in the Installation Range Area (approximately 167,000 acres). Serves as Ground Controller and liaison to the Air Traffic Controller and unit exercise commander for the execution of training operations. Enforce range safety criteria in the safe and efficient execution of high-risk combat. The Ground Controller oversees the integration of all DOD components, Federal, State, and local government, and civilian agencies approved for training on the installation.

Requirements

• This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
• This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Military Science. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above.
