You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the INSTALLATION SAFETY OFFICE of NAVSTA.

Duties

You will design or modify workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate safety or occupations. You will analyze data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices. You will use safety and occupational health regulations, principles, or practices to evaluate operations against compliance standards. You will advise personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Interpreting safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to the performance of a full range of safety management responsibilities on a military installation and the planning; Organizing, directing, operating, and evaluation of a safety program; Developing local standards, guidelines, standard operating procedures and instructions to eliminate or control safety hazards relative to the assigned organizations; Interpreting a wide variety of hazards and complex work operations and conditions found in maintenance shops, maritime work, military training and other activities typical of naval bases which enable the incumbent to analyze mishap data, discover factors and to develop techniques to prevent or reduce the possibility of mishaps; Interpreting construction standards, practices and techniques, materials, equipment and utilities systems sufficient to determine compliance with building safety standards and/or to develop effective controls of work and equipment hazards resulting from new construction or modification of current facilities. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology

OR

Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology

OR
