This position is part of the Customer Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Performs the full range of supervisory functions including performance management, hiring, deciding on promotions, taking disciplinary actions, and developing training requirements for staff. Develops designs for the web, which requires an understanding of web design constraints, web technology, and a working knowledge of security design. Plans and organizes projects, including scheduling and assigning work within Creative Services. Oversees the production of designs for print including layout, expert typography, manipulation of photography and illustrations, examines proofs and provides correct digital files. Discusses and interprets customer needs, helps to identify target audiences, and provides input on technical and aesthetic questions.

  • Selectee may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.
  • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify

Qualifications

To qualify for the Supervisory Visual Information Specialist, PG - 1084 - 14 , you must meet the following requirements: For the Visual Information Series, qualifications can bet met by an Individual Occupational Requirement(IOR) OR Specialized experience at the next lower grade level PG 13 or higher in the federal service in that series: INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT Education: Possess Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE To qualify for the Supervisory Visual Information Specialist PG-14, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-13 grade level in the Federal Service.Specialized Experience which includes: 1. Managing the design and development of complex visual information. 2. Planning work to be accomplished by a team of specialists, sets, and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. 3. Researching, designing, preparing, producing, and executing official visual products directly supporting mission requirements. 4. Creating official and mission-related briefings, conferences, presentations, publications, events, dedications, memorials, observance/awareness campaigns, exhibits and displays. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (02/02/2024) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
