About the position: This position will be assigned to the Buckner and Elmendorf Fitness Center Pools on JBER, AK. Flexible employees have work schedules that depend on the needs of the activity. You may work a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Flexible employees may be subjected to "on call" work in addition to hours posted on the schedule.

Duties

Provides swimming lessons and instruction to groups of adults and/or children, or to individual adults or children. Instructs patrons on rules and procedures for safe swimming. Works in swimming pool environment where lifeguards are present to perform lifesaving activity. As necessary works as a lifeguard. Assists lifeguards in inspecting pools for safe conditions, and perform other duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming pool to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, and pool decks. Incumbent will periodically be required to demonstrate lifesaving ability during in-service training for one hour twice a month for a total of two hours. May be required to instruct lifeguarding, CPR/First Aid courses as necessary. May be required to teach aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21. Requirements

• Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC).
• Individual must have or receive the Red Cross Certified as a WSI (Water Safety instructor) certification prior to or within the first 30 days of employment
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.

Individual must have or receive this certification prior to or within the first 30 days of employment. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, and state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lessons or instruction to children. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and carry them out. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC) and Installation Records Check (IRC).
