The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.
Duties
GS-11: Being an Administrative Officer makes you a valuable team member of the Administrative and Management Support Branch within the OIG, Office of Audits. You will provide administrative and management support services essential to the direction and operations of the office.Typical assignments include:
Interpret and apply laws, regulations, and organizational policies pertaining to a wide range of administrative and management activities.
Maintain personnel and budget expenditure data in official databases, validate time and attendance, and review travel documents.
Purchase equipment, furniture, supplies, and services needed to support office operations.
Collects and analyzes information, draws conclusions, and identifies solutions to resolve administrative problems.
Provide guidance and advice to management and staff on administrative operational issues and developments.
GS-12 & 13: Duties are the same as the GS-11 duties but perform with less supervision.

Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
For the GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level, if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience at this level includes: 1) Performing administrative support functions to include serving as a timekeeper and examining travel documents using Federal Travel Regulations; 2) researching and analyzing appropriate regulations, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform administrative support functions; 3) AND procuring supplies and equipment through a Government Purchase Card.
For the GS-12: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level, if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience at this level includes: 1) Performing administrative support functions to include serving as a timekeeper and examining travel documents in using Federal Travel Regulations; 2) researching and analyzing appropriate regulations, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform administrative support functions; 3) procuring supplies and equipment through a Government Purchase Card; AND 4) solving administrative procedural problems and providing authoritative resolution/information.
For the GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level, if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience at this level includes: 1) Performing administrative support functions to include serving as a timekeeper and examining travel documents using Federal Travel Regulations; 2) researching and analyzing appropriate regulations, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform administrative support functions; 3) procuring supplies and equipment through a Government Purchase Card; AND 4) solving administrative procedural problems and providing authoritative resolution/information.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date 02/01/2024of this announcement.Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade band in the federal service. The time-in-grade requirement must be met by the closing date 02/01/2024of this announcement.
Education
GS-11: Education Substitution for Specialized experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.GS-12:
GS-12 & GS-13: There is no education substitution at this grade level.
