This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
Duties
The responsibilities will include design and construction of an experimental apparatus to conduct time-resolved emission microscopy of semiconductor integrated circuits. This apparatus will involve a microscope, spectrometer, cryostat, superconducting sensor array, and readout electronics. The responsibilities will also include using the apparatus to measure semiconductor integrated circuits-both those fabricated at NIST and those from advanced foundries, obtained through our industry partners. The responsibilities will also include designing superconducting optoelectronic circuits for sensing applications and advanced computing, measurements of superconducting optoelectronic circuits for sensing applications and advanced computing, performance of low temperature measurements with high speed superconducting optoelectronic circuits, planning of experiments and scheduling of fabrication runs, and public dissemination of scientific findings.

Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements
Basic Requirements:
Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in measurements of superconducting electronic circuits, cryogenics, electronics, microscopy, faint-light measurements, AND high-speed measurements.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree as defined in the basic requirements.
OR
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as defined in the additional requirements
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
