About the Position: The incumbent performs the full range of receptionist, recordkeeping and miscellaneous clerical duties within the ambulatory setting.
Duties
Annotate entries when engaged with patients using automated health care systems.
Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person and/or telephonically.
Interview patients to obtain factual information to collect, update, and correct patient information during each contact.
Schedule patient appointments with other medical specialty clinics.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A qualified typist is required.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays and evenings.
- Immunizations are required.
- This position may be a weather or mission essential position.
- This may be a rotating position.
- This position may require occasional temporary duty travel - 5%.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing receptionist, recordkeeping, and miscellaneous clerical duties in an office setting for an organization; utilizing an automated healthcare system to schedule patient appointments; utilizing office automation software to retrieve data and/or prepare corresponding reports.
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade within the preceding 52 weeks.
