About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Director for Medicine Department of Medicine Allergy/Immunization, Bethesda Maryland.
Parking at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is limited. The use of commuting alternatives is recommended.
Duties
Maintain and coordinate the clinic physician schedules and coverage.
Communicate between referral management, central templating and service leadership about provider template schedules, availability, access to care, and other issues as they arise.
Assist clinicians with prior authorizations for medication coverage requests.
Monitor DHMRSI to ensure staff are logging appropriate hours on their timecards.
Maintain and organize the clinic front desk fax room.
Ensure exam rooms have adequate paper copies of frequently used clinical assessment tools and keep exam rooms organized.
Perform duties of front desk staff, MSAs (for example, scheduling patient appointments, answering phone calls and sending/receiving faxes) as needed.
Review position descriptions for accuracy and applicability.
Prepare Direct Health Care Program packages to obtain funding of contract health care providers.
Prepare purchase instruments for obtaining personnel and equipment for assigned work area.
Confirm correspondence, reports, travel orders, etc., are processed correctly and expeditiously.
Review incoming and outgoing correspondence for completeness and accuracy.
Oversee preparation of response to actions not requiring attention of the Chief and/or Health System Specialist.
Develop and prepare reporting formats, i.e., pie charts, bar charts, and similar items from data for presentation.
Coordinate conferences and meetings by arranging space, time, equipment, and supplies.
Assemble background and conference materials for conferences and meetings.
Provide recordkeeping of minutes for meetings within the department.
Provide courtesy to visitors and high-level officials that enter the clinic.
Schedule challenge procedures (food, drug, etc.) and initial allergy shot appointments.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Specialized Experience for GS-08: One year of specialized experience that includes; Working in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF); Providing Administrative support in a MTF; Coordinating travel arrangements; Preparing and providing input on budgetary issues due to equipment, personnel or potential shortfalls; Utilizing MTF office automation programs to develop reports to provide improvement recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
