The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Deputy Director of Staff (DS, one of organizations under the Command Staff) for the Air Force Installations and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC), and working with the Director of Staff (a Colonel or equivalent position) exercising the full scope of responsibility for managing the activities of the directorate.
Duties
1. Working with the Director of Staff, plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Director of Staff (to include Staff Operations, Protocol, HQ Budget, Information Protection, Public Affairs, Facilities Maintenance, History, Commander's Action Group, and Information Technology functions.
2. With the Director of Staff, exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
3. Represents the organization with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes that I have, or will have within 120 days of closing of this announcement, 1 year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-13 (or higher) grade level or equivalent pay systems (may have been obtained in the federal service, military, public or private sector). Experience should include extensive working knowledge and highly developed skills in program development, funding, planning to anticipate identify and resolve management and staff issues and challenges. Extensive ability to exercise leadership authority in the staff arena and is relied upon daily for recommendations in the decision-making process.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. 1. Knowledge of the principles, theories, techniques, practices, mission and organizational structure of staff operations management concepts, principles, and methodologies to carry out management responsibilities.
2. Knowledge of military command structure, missions, programs and organizational relationships and program goals and objectives, the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones and methods of evaluating and planning actions as related to actual events. Knowledge of both civilian and military protocol, etiquette manuals and guides, USAF and AFIMSC policies, regulations and procedures.
3. Knowledge of personnel management, EEO, safety, and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions, and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff, of an organization through subordinate supervisors, as well as deal with people tactfully and diplomatically and communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately, both orally and in writing.
5. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
6. Skill in basic analytical ability to discern short, medium and long-term effects of changes in practices, procedures and policies, and to effectively analyze the various components of operations as part of an integrated whole.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
