This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Biometric Identity Management.
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure availability of systems, networks and data. Provide prompt incident response and active management to minimize service interruptions to internal and external stakeholders. Manage processes and assist with system monitoring to ensure a timely and efficient resolution.
Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.
Duties
As a IT Specialist (INFOSEC), GS-2210-9/11/12, your typical work assignments may include:
Overseeing mission critical systems via Splunk and leading system interruption resolutions.
Managing security procedures and tools and developing systems administration standard operating procedures for the agency.
Utilizing operational procedures, policies, and instructions for all system engineering life cycle (SELC) events and activities.
Performing operational evaluations and assessments for all information system (IS) configuration management (CM) changes.
Coordinating and disseminating operational policies with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance.

Qualifications
Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position. Your resume and work experience should clearly support your ability to meet these competencies and will be evaluated as part of the entire application process.
Attention to Detail: Experience reviewing my own information technology-related work or data and have been responsible for reviewing the work of others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.
Customer Service: Developing and maintaining relationships with customers, anticipating and assessing the current and future information technology needs of customers, and developing or identifying information technology products or services that are tailored to meet customer needs.
Problem Solving: Identifying alternatives to address unique, highly complex, or sensitive information technology-related issues. I have anticipated information technology-related problems and have identified and evaluated potential sources of information to generate alternative solutions.
Oral Communication: Briefing senior-level management and IT staff on the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the communication of complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
Specialized Experience GS-09:
You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Monitoring of mission critical systems via Splunk and assisting with resolving system interruptions.
Experience using operational procedures, policies, and instructions for system engineering life cycle (SELC) events and activities.
Experience implementing security procedures and utilizing administrative standard operating procedures for the agency.

GS-09 Substitution of Education for Experience: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, Master's or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks, may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level.
Specialized Experience GS-11:
To qualify for the GS-11, applicants must have at least one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level, OR equivalent public or private sector experience. For this position specialized experience is defined as:
Evaluating mission critical systems via Splunk and assisting with resolving system interruptions.
Assessing security vulnerabilities and collaborating for vulnerability remediation.
Managing user access to production and non-production systems and equipment.

GS-11 Substitution of Education for Experience: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed higher-level graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify for the GS-11 level.
Specialized Experience GS-12:
To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must have at least one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, OR equivalent public or private sector experience. For this position specialized experience is defined as:
Overseeing mission critical systems via Splunk and leading system interruption resolutions.
Applying or writing operational procedures, policies, and instructions for system engineering life cycle (SELC) events.
Managing projects involving configuration changes to IT infrastructure, storage, hardware, software, and interfaces.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
