About the Position: Serve as a Employment Readiness Program Specialist at the United States Army Garrison (USAG), Miami, FL. This position is located in the major metropolitan city of Miami, with easy access to major interstate highways, business setting with security, free parking, and gym.
Duties
Executes program goals and objectives for the installation and surrounding area for the Employment Readiness Program which focuses on employment assistance to military spouses and family members.
Interviews, counsels and advises on career, occupational, volunteer and educational issues.
Establishes and maintains relationships with corporate industry personnel, small business agencies, local chambers of commerce, economic development councils, state employment services, universities and other employment agencies or entities.
Develops and maintains a database of job opportunities for family members through acquired knowledge of client skills and abilities.
Designs, coordinates, conducts and evaluates workshops and seminars on specific job skills such as resume writing, interviewing, salary negotiation, networking and achieving a professional image.
Hosts working groups focused on providing career opportunities for junior enlisted spouses, as well as other readily identifiable segments of the military population.
Consults and briefs commanders, leadership, ACS Director and the community-at-large to keep them abreast of local and national employment trends, employment demographics for spouses and family members of DoD personnel and work-family issues.
Designs an effective marketing strategy and public relations program to ensure the target population is informed of the DoD employment assistance program.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be able to perform temporary duty 5% of the time.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A. Basic Requirement: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as social work and/or counseling. Copies of Transcripts need to be submitted with the application package.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Copies of Transcripts need to be submitted with the application package.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assessment of individual, family and vocational needs to assist in outline milestones to achieve job opportunity and/or career goals; conducting workshops and seminars specific to job skill requirements such as resume writing, interviewing techniques, salary negotiation, networking, achieving a professional image and personal assessment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as social work, and/or counseling.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
