The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Joint Military Information Support Office (MISO) Web Operations Center (JMWC) IT Cyber Security Specialist responsible for providing subject matter expertise in Cyber security and its applicability to the JMWC's activities.

Duties

Serves as the JMWC Cyber Security subject matter expert providing Information Security (INFOSEC), Network Services security (NETWORK), and Systems Administration (SYSADMIN) support. Provides continuous review, coordination, assessment, and improvement of activities impacted by new technological developments within the commercial cyber security sector and other associated sectors. Formulates and implements enduring cyber security architecture for JMWC operations. Serves as technical representative and technical advisor on current and emerging hardware and software security compatibility requirements. Responsible to ensure the core classified national information protection security disciplines of information are fully covered from a policy and programmatic viewpoint to ensure overall information protection requirements meet mission requirements.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information and other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements for the Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A).https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes: Applying a wide range of technology principles, concepts, methods, advancements, policies, design, development, testing and applications, both hardware and software, sufficient to enable the organization's WebOps requirements; Application of software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging software and hardware security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software and hardware projects; and to design, write, test, debug, and maintain information systems and applications; Utilization of systems architecture, integration techniques, and testing methods sufficient to conduct feasibility studies. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging software and hardware security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software and hardware projects; and to design, write, test, debug, and maintain information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure in the database environment. Skilled in system design and engineering, system software development, testing, and program maintenance; concentration is on problem analysis and resolution to provide and maintain effective systems for current and planned JMWC/USSOCOM information systems. Skilled in the application of software technology to isolate causes of problems or compatibility issues between hardware, system, and applications software programs and to measure system performance and/or extend operating system capabilities to support organizational business processes and operations. Skilled in the application of information security, specifically with penetration testing, intrusion detection, incident response or digital forensics. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to select and apply a variety of analytical methods and techniques to determine network configuration, system runtime environment, and workstation processing requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
