This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). As a Student Services Director (Dean of Students) you will be responsible for delivering effective and quality services to students in the following program areas - Mental Health Services, Student Housing, Student Rights and Conduct, and Student Activities/Recreation Services.

Duties

As a Student Services Director (Dean of Students)GS-1701-13, your typical work assignments may include the following: Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation and ensuring quality in all aspects of the student services/student affairs programs. Departments managed under the Office of the Dean of Students include Student Housing, Student Activities and Recreation, Student Rights and Conduct, and Student Counseling Services. Researches, interprets, analyzes, and applies the proper guidelines, policies, and regulations. Responsible for the oversight of the Student Code and Housing Handbook. Applies and adapts analytical, evaluative methods, and techniques to review, revise, and formulate policy. Directly engages in the preparation and presentation of briefings to Haskell's President and serves as the Student Services representative on University leadership committees. Responsible for the development of, and management of the budgetary and fiscal plans within the Division of Student Services. Reviews and approves budget execution transactions for Student Services programs. Responsible for assuring safety policies are adhered to by each program. Manages co-curricular assessment for the Division of Student Services, and ensures that the Division of Student Services is actively contributing to the learning environment at the University. Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree that included or was supplemented by major study in Student Affairs, Education, or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in Student Affairs, Education, or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-13: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service with experience in Student Services/Student Affairs. This experience includes providing leadership, administration, and management of student services/student affairs programming or other educational programs in higher education; planning, designing, evaluating, and developing student-centered policies and procedures for student success and development at a college or university; developing and managing a program budget to assure funds meet program-based service delivery for student programming for support and success at a college or university; performing oversight, motivation, and training of staff to meet program goals, objectives, and expectations of a college or university; and demonstrating experience of best practices skills and abilities for program goals, benchmark setting and achieving, timelines, and the development of measurable metrics for student-centered services for student success at a college or university. Education

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
