Duties
As the Maintenance Worker Leader (Trails) you will assist the Trails Supervisor in short term planning of trail maintenance, construction, and reconstruction oriented trail projects. You will lead a trail crew of three to six individuals. You must have a complete knowledge of trail construction and maintenance techniques and must be able to recognize existing and future maintenance problems. You must be knowledgeable in the analysis of drainage patterns and the subsequent control methods. Additional duties consist of but are not limited to:
Selecting corrective actions to trail problems, estimating time, materials, logistical tactics, needed equipment etc.
Scheduling material deliveries, coordinating vehicle and equipment use, and coordinating resource monitoring
Scheduling and working with volunteer or youth corps groups
Responsible for day-to-day on-site decisions concerning workflow assignment and distribution of work for crew(s)
Teaches and demonstrates proper trail maintenance and construction methods and techniques to crews and volunteers and sets the pace when working along side them
Communicates procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives to staff
Facilitates safety "tailgate sessions" whenever necessary, especially when initiating a new task or operating specialized equipment
Inspects all assigned equipment and vehicles on a regular and recurring basis to assure safe working conditions
Keeps supervisor informed of status and progress of work, causes of work delays, and any personnel issues
This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. Permanent career-seasonal positions include all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks up to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. This position is expected to work approximately 11 months per year. The position will be in a non-pay status for up to 2 weeks approximately in mid-August.
