This position is with the construction crew in the Facilities Section, Engineering Service, and is under direct supervision of the In-house Construction Supervisor and will be working on construction projects. The Construction Crew Leader will be required to assist other tradespersons on the construction crew in a technical and non-technical manner such as bringing materials to the job site. The Construction Crew Leader may also be detailed to other shops as directed by the Carpentry Supervisor.

Duties

As a working leader, the incumbent is responsible to the supervisor for non-supervisory work assignments that are of the same general kind and level as that done by the regular group led. As a leader, the incumbent is responsible to the supervisor for assuring that the work assignments of the group led are carried out, by passing on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor and initiating the work. The incumbent is responsible for working alone or with other, employees; setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods; ensuring that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available; and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Duties and Responsibilities Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and all equipment assigned to the construction crew. Works from building plans, blue prints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, electrical maintenance lines, circuits, systems equipment and controls. Assists with demo, redecorating offices, wards, corridors, dining halls, living quarters and shop buildings. Paints and refinish furniture, wood, and metal, such as desks, cabinets clean up, operating room and laundry equipment. Conducts material delivery set up and takes down of infection control barriers temp walls, doors, temporary lighting etc. Updates and maintain chemical inventory, safety data sheets (SDS) using proper Lockout Tag Out (LOTO), updating and maintaining log sleets. Generates written reports, formal logs and spreadsheets for tracking of work accomplished. Responsible for in-house Construction Projects such as remodeling, relocating and rearranging offices and medical spaces, installing new equipment, roof repairs and minor improvements such as carpeting/flooring and painting. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The Construction Crew Leader must be in good physical condition to perform assigned work. Physical exertion, such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes, is required. Physical efforts, such as walking, climbing, crawling and bending, and strains such as working in confining spaces or in crouching or stooping positions for extended periods of time are encountered much of the time. Working Conditions: Construction Crew Leader at this grade make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires electrical workers to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Construction Crew workers frequently lift and carry tolls, equipment, and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Works in areas on equipment requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, face masks; respirators (negative pressure or power air purifying types, etc.) Occasionally works in areas and on equipment that may result in exposure to airborne asbestos fibers (PPE will be provided and required to be worn). The work is performed both inside and outside. The Construction Crew Leader may be required to make repairs and installation in bad weather, in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; manholes of 30 feet deep, and occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Incumbent are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises and occasionally work in areas requiring the use of respirators.
