Duties
Serve as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff for DFAS Indianapolis Operations Headquarters.
Extrapolates existing methods and procedures to meet future requirements and develop timely and executable plans of action, as well as analyzes diverse issues requiring input from subordinate staff elements.
Reviews and interprets new regulations and policies. Independently maintains, formulates, and/or updates general policies, regulations, plans and procedures relating to administrative functions to meet current and/or changing conditions as required.
Manages staff actions, determines status, prioritizes events, and provides comprehensive status briefs. Exercises control over the daily operating schedule of the Chief of Staff with authority for commitment of the time.
Responsible for administrative office functions handling calls and messages appropriately and ensures proper training and assistance has been given to new staff on all administrative matters.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
GS-09 specialized experience is defined as: performing administrative office functions, applying knowledge of policy and regulations to assist personnel with issues and recommend remediation actions, researching information and data to prepare forms, reports and other related communications; experience with a variety of office automation software to produce and edit correspondence.
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-09) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
GS-11 specialized experience is defined as: utilizing knowledge of administrative and management procedures to coordinate a variety of administrative tasks and staff actions, providing recommendations regarding updates to policies, regulations and plans to meet current or changing conditions, maintain calendar for management/senior leader and recommend course of action on a variety of taskings involving daily and long-range projects.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-09, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher in the Federal service. To be considered for the GS-11, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-09 or higher in the Federal service.

Education
GS-09 Substitution of Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, Master's or equivalent graduate degree, may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html).
