You will serve as an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (OPERATING SYSTEMS) in the G-6 Communications Electronics Division of MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO.

Duties

You will perform the planning, installation, operation and management of regionally managed domain services. You will work complex projects and tasks for implementing new technologies into the current environment while ensuring interoperability of dependent IT services. You will analyze performance and event management indicators and make configuration changed to optimize and improve functionality of IT services and information systems. You will install and manage database systems in support of hosted applications. You will create and maintain system documentation in accordance with DOD security policies and standards in support of regional managed systems and applications.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Top Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position has been designated as a Cyber Workforce position in the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) as a condition of employment, required to maintain qualifications in accordance with DON Cyber Workforce Program requirements SECNAV M-5239-2.
  • Must participate in a continuous learning (CL) program as described in SECNAVINST 5239.20A and SECNAV M-5239.2. An annual 20 hour minimum of Cyber Workforce related continuous learning must be documented in a current individual development plan.
  • Must obtain the required credentials within 12 months of appointment and maintain those credentials as described in SECNAV M-52392. Failure to meet a condition of employment may result in disciplinary and/or adverse action up to removal.

Qualifications

GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting analysis and developing solutions to resolve complex issues affecting IT services; installing and managing database systems; and makes configuration changes to optimize and improve functionality of IT services and information systems AND have specific level of proficiency required for each competency listed below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.

Combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience.
