Duties
Major Duties: The incumbent performs routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, trails, trail structures and related utilities while assisting higher grade employee in the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades. The work is on structures both indoors and out of doors in a variety of weather conditions including rain, wind, sun, and thunderstorms and high humidity.
Area Information: Indiana Dunes National Park is a 15,000 acre park located within 1 hour of the major metropolitan area of Chicago, IL with a population of over 10 million. The park is among the top 10 most visited National Park units annually. Within the park boundaries there are numerous local, county, state, and federal agencies. The park has 60+ miles of horse, bike and hiking trails, a 2,000 acre State Park, a large residential environment education center, several historic districts, 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and four communities within the park boundary. The Park is the birthplace of the science of ecology and has one of the most diverse plant communities in the NPS system. The park further supports several geographically dispersed units within the park as well as neighboring Pullman National Monument 30 miles distant.
