About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States.
Duties
This position is located in the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS).
Ensures the safety of personnel using Fort Drum training areas such as training facilities and ranges, ensuring that ranges are utilized effectively.
Provides technical and operational advice and assistance to military units planning live-fire and combined training exercises.
You will be knowledgeable of regulations concerning the safety of ranges and ensure that all personnel utilizing the ranges are abiding by safety guidelines.
Assists military personnel in developing and writing risk management plans and preparing memorandums of agreement.
Receives and processes requests for ammunition for military exercises.Collects statistical data and information for reports and prepare reports on training facility and range use at Fort Drum by both military and civilian personnel.

- This position requires the incumbent to possess or attend and successfully graduate from the Army Range Safety Course within one year of being appointed into this position.
- This position requires the incumbent to occasionally work odd hours which include working overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Coordinating the scheduling of training for ranges; 2) Reviewing training plans of individuals; 3) Researching guidelines and regulations to resolve issues and ensure safety; 4) Analyzing range capabilities to ensure ranges are being used effectively. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Military Arts and Science.
OR
Have the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year, and have more than one year but less than the required education in above. Compute the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.)
