You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Engineering and Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will Supervise personnel from engineering, material, and testing areas. You will participate in the development of the Project Management Plan and all major non-nuclear planning products. You will be the technical expert on the engineering disciplines: structural, mechanical, and electrical/electronics. You will provide oversight and ultimate approval of selection of job summary boundaries, the job summary development process, and major job summary reviews. You will create and maintain timely, accurate, resource balanced, and achievable schedules which support effective project execution. You will define, develop, and release task packages for execution when all required resources, authorizations, and other required information is available.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying the principles and theories of the physical and engineering sciences, generally, and the techniques, principles, and practices of structural, mechanical, electrical/electronics, industrial, civil and nuclear engineering, in the application of ship maintenance, repair, construction, and operation. Experience with naval ship overhaul processes including production, planning, engineering, and scheduling to be able to manage resources within cost and schedule budgets. Experience managing, interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating unique and complex assignments and defining problems and developing the best approach involved to plan work for a wide variety of extensive engineering projects and programs. Experience effectively communicating orally and in writing to permit interface at the division and department head levels and to serve as the authority for the branch to interpret and/or prepare formal and informal technical and authoritative reports and data.
