You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the CNC Precision and Machinery Shop (31A), Mechanical Division (TRF-320), Repair Department (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will be responsible for planning and developing the operations and programs necessary to machine parts via CNC machine tools.
You will be responsible for performing analytical translation of engineering design layouts and drawings to program control media for the operation of CNC machine tools.
You will be responsible for performing or instructing wage grade personnel in the performance of the trial run of the NC tool program machine tool NC code.
You will be responsible for making any necessary corrections in the machine tool NC code or tooling to ensure a quality product.
You will be responsible for preparing technical assistance in the evaluation of new numerical control programming requirements regarding feasibility and adaptability upon the NC machine tools.
You will be responsible for troubleshooting network errors and relating findings to the system administrator.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience can be described as:
Experience developing CNC machine tool programs for parts and fixtures utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) interactive graphic techniques.
Experience preparing Machine Part Work Package (MPWP) for use by the machinist and preparing drawings and operator instructions showing material and toll holder set-ups and providing information to the operator.
Experience with CNC and conventional machine tool set and the ability to design, manufacture, install, and modify setup fixtures and tooling.
Experience analyzing engineering drawings and other technical data to determine the feasibility of manufacturing, repairing, or modifying parts on lathes, milling machines, grinders, wire Electric Discharge Machines (EDM), vertical turret lathe, or machining centers.
Experience with CAD and CAM systems, computers, operating systems, networks, application software packages, peripheral equipment, and programming knowledge.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings and visualizing objects in three dimensions.

- Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
- Experience in a Trade or Craft- may be credited as a specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial development, test, or design responsibilities such as:
- Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
- Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
- Education
- Graduate education may be used for this position if it meets the specialized experience in those instances where it directly relates to the work of the position.
- Successfully completed two full years of graduate education that directly relates to the position.
- OR
- Successfully completed a master's degree that directly relates to the position.
Certification:
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
