About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at t Ft Eisenhower, GA. Serves as the Senior Network Administrator (NA) in the Hosting & Hoteling Branch of the Enterprise Systems Division.

Duties

Serves as the senior NA on multiple enterprise information systems. Responsible for providing technical guidance and solutions for the design, implementation, cybersecurity, operations, and maintenance of firewalls, VPN, CSfC, CDS, MILS, and encryption solutions. Lead junior team members in the installation configuration, maintenance, operation, performance monitoring, and cybersecurity hardening of CSfC systems, services, and devices. Advise and oversee other technical specialists on development, testing, installation, and maintenance of automation networks and network devices such as switches, VPN, concentrators, and firewalls. Monitor the automated systems to include troubleshooting, fault isolation, problem solving, upgrading of hardware and software, debugging, and assessing program effectiveness. Implementation of system security procedures and network intrusion and detection monitoring tools specified by local or command directive IAW Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Army (DA), NETCOM and SANEC-Fort Gordon established guidelines. Identify and anticipate system and application performance, availability, capacity, or configuration problems, and initiates corrective or preventative actions. Review, test, analyze, and select new and proposed software packages and recommends which applications should be installed. Resolves specific hardware and software problems on unit servers, such as service and device failures or malfunctions. Perform the full range of Program Management activities starting from concept and exploration continuing through development, production, and completion of initial fielding of the system/equipment items, life cycle management and support.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain intermediate level foundational qualifications for a system administrator. Personnel assigned to this position must obtain the appropriate certification within six months of being assigned.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain GIAC Security Essentials Certificate (GSEC), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), and/or Security + Certification within six months of being assigned.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain intermediate level foundational qualifications for a system administrator within six months of being assigned.
  • Position requires incumbent to maintain the Computing Environment (CE) certification of Cisco Certified Network Associate / Professional (CCNA/CCNP) or other vendor equivalent network administration certifications.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required, employee must pass screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment, and subsequent periodic drug screening thereafter.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Work requires the employee to rotate through supported facilities and/or travel to regionally supported sites.
  • May be required to work overtime, holidays, or weekends, be on call, or work shift work based on mission needs and/or required to work during inclement weather and other emergency situations to ensure the continuity of the Organization's mission.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) business travel is required approximately 25%.
  • A physical is required due to lifting to 25 pounds.
  • The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing, prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position is designated Mission Essential.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: (1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: completing thorough and accurate work independently, even in the most difficult or stressful situations; occasionally reviewing work completed by others.
