As the Chief Archivist in the History and Information Services Division within the Office of Communication, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and integration of archival policies, procedures, and requirements. Working under the supervision and direction of the NASA Chief Historian, you will lead all archival activities for the agency including developing and implementing policies related to archival collections.
Duties
Develops and implements Enterprise policies and procedures relating to all functional areas including appraisal, accessioning, arrangement and description, processing, digitization, preservation, infrastructure management, and access.
Guides and informs Agency Leadership on the current and future state of the NASA Enterprise Archives Program communicating the vision, mission, function, technology, infrastructure, cost, and requirements relating to the agency’s archival function.
Creates and fosters partnership and collaboration opportunities with internal stakeholders, including mission directorates, programs and projects, center operations, and senior leadership.
Engages with external stakeholders including academic institutions, open-source communities, federal agencies, cultural and historical institutions, and international partners in history and archives.
Partners with NASA Records Management to develop and execute procedures for scheduling, accessioning and dispositioning of temporary records.
Works across the agency’s creating organizations, records management, and external donors to identify intrinsically valuable records and materials.

Requirements
- Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Assisting with the development of policies and procedures related to the accessioning, arrangement, and servicing of analog and digital archives utilizing multiple research sources, methodologies, and techniques;
Working with the NASA records management process to identify, preserve, and protect records, including temporary records, permanent records, and vital records;
Applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues of information classification, marking, and release of NASA records.

Education
Basic Requirements:
A. You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in archival science; or a degree in a related field that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

B. Have a combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
