This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Serves as the director of an archival records division within the Office of Research Services (R) under the Chief Operating Officer at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
Duties
As a Supervisory Archivist, you will:
- Direct all archival functions of division holdings including accessioning, processing, arrangement, description, storage, preservation, access to, reference, and documentary publications.
- Coordinate with unit chiefs to establish accessioning priorities for permanent records in R and monitors the program for maintaining physical and intellectual control over accessioned permanent records.
- Establish policies and priorities and assigns staff to respond to the need for materials that describe the permanent records in R's custody; provide overall direction for the review and verification of descriptive entries; and ensure that all staff perform the project work that is needed to enhance access or preserve valuable records.
- Be responsible for managing, directing, supervising, staffing, coordinating, and evaluating a variety of functions and activities as reviewing-level supervisor for the division, including approving leave, and planning and scheduling work, including telework and remote work.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Supervising or leading an archival records program; AND
- Proposing and implementing solutions/strategies for program improvement to assure the continuing effectiveness of activities in support of an agency's mission; AND
- Collaborating and executing communication strategies, plans or policies to individuals.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14level for 52 weeks.
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Individual Occupational Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

B. Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
