Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY Responsible for policy support for bilateral or multilateral activities that relate to assigned programs and activities. Keeps abreast of relevant political, economic, social and health issues in the assigned area of responsibility, including research on health policy. Works with senior staff to collect and analyze information. Serves a representative of the program office to outside organizations.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT Undergraduate and Graduate Education Major study -- public health or other field of study with course work directly related to the work of the position to be filled OR Specialized Experience Experience that provides: Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities. Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings. Knowledge of a specialized public health program. Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions. Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials. AND Additional Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements candidates must also: GS-09 A. Have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service that includes assisting in planning and/or developing of national and international public health programs and policies. OR B. Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in public health or other field of study with course work directly related to the work of the position to be filled or LL.B. or J.D., if related. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. OR C. Have a combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above. GS-11 A. Have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that includes planning and developing national and international public health programs and policies; implementing national and international public health programs and policies OR B. Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in public health or other field of study with course work directly related to the work of the position to be filled or LL.M., if related. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement OR C.
