This position serves as a Transportation Assistant for the Beneficiary Travel Program within the Health Administration Service (HAS) of the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS). The three major areas of responsibility are beneficiary travel claim processing; scheduling special mode transportation; and consult management.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Processing beneficiary travel claims using a variety of computer programs.
Arranging all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transports.
Explaining regulatory guidelines to beneficiaries or vendors seeking payment for reimbursement of travel expenses or transportation services.
Preparing reports, conducting audits and analysis of beneficiary travel fund control point activity.
Serves as fund control point clerk for beneficiary travel fund control points, obligates funds, maintains manual and electronic accounting records, performs regular reconciliations and adjusts account balances.
Maintains and controls filing systems.
Other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
EXPERENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Transportation Assistant Beneficiary Travel Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes applying transportation regulations and practices to perform a wide variety of administrative support; coordinating travel arrangements; maintaining records, utilizing databases, reconciling records and generating reports; investigating/resolving issues and taking corrective actions; and communicating effectively with a wide variety of individuals. ~OR~
EDUCATION: Successful completion of four (4) years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application. Education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours (beyond the second year)) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: Will be exposed to stressful working situations that will require a mature attitude and collective reasoning to overcome. Is subject to a great deal of stress because of the high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
