You will serve as a Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) in the Production Lines Division, MRO Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform a variety of metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout, and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components. You will work from drawings, manuals, technical directives, instructions, and under the guidance of a higher-graded mechanic. You will disassemble, repair, assemble, modify, measure, and/or check aircraft, aircraft engine structures, components, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Utilizing measuring instruments such steel rules, drill gauges, compasses, and other precision-measuring devices and hand power tools to form sheet metals; 2) Manufacturing and installing patches, splices, reinforcements and using replacement parts to repair damaged components; and 3) Utilizing basic level shop mathematics to calculate and scribe patterns and applying shop principles of parallel or radial line development and triangulation.
