Duties

Provide in-flight assistance to pilots. Responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of aircraft traffic. Perform radar approach control duties in all radar and non-radar positions. Assure standard separation between landing and departing aircraft regardless of their flight plan type and/or aircraft type. Inform adjacent sectors or facilities of enroute changes in flights. Operate radar equipment to ensure proper control of air traffic. Issue Air Traffic Control (ATC) clearances and instructions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a pre-employment Class IV flight physical prior to being placed into this position.
  • Incumbent must maintain personal physical fitness in accordance with AR 40-501.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Incumbent is subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position (continue to maintain U.S. Army Class IV medical certification).
  • This position requires the incumbent must certify in facilities of assignment within the time limits specified in AR 95-2.
  • Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the ATC Chief/Commander and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.

To qualify for the GS-12 position: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing the movement of aircraft in flight and on runways/taxiway; controlling takeoff and landing of a variety of military and/or civilian aircraft utilizing a radar approach control facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
