You will serve as a MILITARY SUPPORT SPECIALIST at Service Combate Systems Training command, Hampton Roads.

Duties

You will plan and conduct the in and out processing of officer, enlisted and civilian personnel. You will solve a wide variety of problems including pay and personnel issues, permanent change of station screenings and assignment changes. Prepare travel requests for foreign and domestic travel. Issue guidance on initial/refresher travel card training requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing regulation and guidance for the Defense Travel System (DTS) and the Government Travel Card Program to assist staff members; 2) Utilizing the Joint Travel Regulations manual to advise employees and supervisors of the travel rules and regulations; 3) Using software programs (i.e. Excel, Microsoft Office, Access) in daily work to produce personnel action requests, FITNESS reports, correspondence, etc.; 4) Communicating orally and in writing to provide instructions and information to employees. For the GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Preparing standard official correspondence and/or fitness and evaluation reports; 2) Processing civilian and military awards; 3) Utilizing knowledge in the differences of classified information with classified material handling and stowage; 4) Serving customer and customer needs through interaction to facilitate expeditious handling of requests and inquiries. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

For the GS-09:
Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR

Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

For the GS-07:
Successfully completed one full year of graduate level education OR
