Duties
Do you have experience as a Mission Flight Control Officer or Range Safety Officer for a launch range? The Space Launch Delta 30 Safety Office is looking for a Senior Mission Flight Control Officer to support critical DoD, Test, and Commercial launches out of Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. This critical role safeguards the public in the surrounding area while contributing to the critical national launch mission. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing a multidisciplinary launch support team, as well as developing training packages and training other members.
The ideal candidate possesses a knowledge of launch vehicles, range instrumentation, communication systems, command/control/display systems, and onboard flight termination systems. Experience with real-time decision making in a safety critical context, requiring quick and irrevocable decisions. Ability to direct a launch operations team in the conduct of a launch control operation. Ability to develop effective training and evaluation material, and teach/train personnel.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of performance characteristics of launch vehicles, range instrumentation, communication systems, command and control systems, onboard commanded and automatic flight termination systems, and computer displays.
2. Ability to develop plans, programs, procedures, and management principles to successfully direct the actions of a launch operations team.
3. Skill in using judgement to interpret and recognize vehicle or range instrumentation anomalies. Skill in making quick (seconds) irrevocable decisions during a launch operation.
4. Ability to develop effective training and evaluation material for mission ready personnel to meet major command objectives. Ability to teach/train range safety personnel.
5. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
6. Knowledge of Mission Flight control objectives, goals, and policies and functional responsibilities.
7. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
8. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.
9. Knowledge of Western Range launch vehicles, flight termination systems, payloads, ground support equipment, facilities, organizations and contracts.
10. Skill in working with customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations, while developing and maintaining effective relationships and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

- This position is eligible for situational telework, 2-4 days per pay period.

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Employee needs to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties.
- Random drug testing may be required depending upon the position being filled.
- TDY is required as directed.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
