If you are a knowledgeable, talented, and motivated individual and have experience in the application of police methods and techniques, consider joining the Division of Police. The responsibility of the position is the investigation, apprehension, or detention of persons suspected of offenses against any criminal laws of the United States. If selected, you will work under the direct supervision of a sergeant and be required to carry a weapon as part of your duty uniform.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Applicants must meet all qualifications requirements within thirty (30) calendar days of the closing date of this announcement, including time in grade.
  • If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination and psychological examination.
  • If selected, you will be required to work on-call or call-back requirements and rotational shifts, weekends, and holidays hours. Overtime on an emergency basis.
  • If selected, the incumbent will be required to a pre-employment and/or random drug and alcohol testing is required for this position.
  • If selected, you will be required to obtain and maintain a valid state motor vehicle license.
  • If selected, you will be covered by a bargaining unit (union).
  • If selected, you will be required to obtain and maintain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • If selected, you must be able to lift and move heavy items weighing 50 lbs. or more.
  • If selected, you may be required to wear protective clothing. If selected, you will be required to wear a uniform.
  • If selected for this position, you will be expected to travel 12 weeks for initial entrance level training at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). FLETC may be waived for eligible candidates.
  • If selected, you must be able to work outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • If selected, you must pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) test which consist of a Sit and Reach, Bench Press, and Illinois Agility run.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended, which prohibits access to firearms by people convicted of crimes involving domestic violence or any felonious act.
  • If selected, you will be required to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Criminal history background checks are a required for this position.
  • You must have reached your 21st birthday prior to an initial Federal Police Officer appointment.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-08 level, if you meet the following qualification requirement: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting investigations of criminal acts and other offenses; responding to calls or alarms involving crimes in progress, threats, or suspicious activities; interviewing or interrogating victims, suspects, and witnesses; arresting violators suspected of criminal violations; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; preparing incident and criminal reports, testimony, and evidence; and serving as a team leader for other police officers.
