You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the Fire and Emergency Services Div. of COMMANDER NAVY REGION MARIANAS. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform testing on fire protection systems (e.g. alarm system and fire suppression system) to determine operational condition. You will conduct fire protection and prevention education and training programs to elicit support and involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression. You will conduct fire inspections to ensure fire prevention program is compliance and reporting conditions found. You will participate in the Fire Protection Engineer inspections of new construction, alteration, and elimination of built-in hazards of structures to ensure compliance with regulations. You will comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of work environment.

  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing fire inspections and deploying comprehensive fire prevention programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Education/Training: Appropriate firefighter training may be substituted for experience on a month-for-month basis.

Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study is qualifying for GS-5.
