You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DIVISION of COMMANDER NAVY REGION MARIANAS. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020 streamlines certain Department of Defense (DoD) civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain DoD competitive service positions.

Duties

You will provide advance life support and formulate a clinical impression and treatment plan based on investigative findings and apply advance medical treatment protocol. You will administer various medications orally or intravenously via sublingual, intramuscular, rectal, endotracheal, inhalation, and intravenous fluids under the direction of standing orders. You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. You will fight structural fires actively and affectively based on up-to-date knowledge of layouts, potential hazards, and fixed fire protection systems. You will perform hazard and risk assessment techniques in completing initial incident analysis and utilize hazardous materials response procedures and equipment. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumper and aerial ladder trucks and assist in training other firefighters on driving vehicles and operating equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance on equipment and fire station facilities, maintaining proper functioning firefighting equipment and clean and orderly assigned facilities.

  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program
  • This position requires rotating shift work. You will be required to work a 72-hour week on a 24-hour on/24-hour off basis that includes weekends, and holidays.
  • You will be required to be certified and maintain certification as : Firefighter II, Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper and Aerial Vehicles.
  • You must possess the State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic certification (NREMT).

Qualifications

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing the full range of advanced life support emergency medical techniques and performing related duties such as structural firefighting, emergency vehicle operation, hazardous materials operation, firefighting equipment and fire station facilities maintenance and fire prevention or emergency procedures training to assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective fire protection and prevention programs . GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing emergency responses to include emergency medical treatment, fire prevention, protection, and suppression, hazardous materials response and fire prevention or emergency procedures training to assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective fire protection and prevention programs.
