This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Operations, Asst Commandant for Response Policy (CG-5R), Director of Emergency Management (CG-5RI), Ofc of Emergency Management & Disaster Response (OEM), All-Hazards Exercise Support Division (OEM-4), Washington, DC.
Duties
This position serves as an Emergency Management Specialist, ensuring their assigned exercises provide conditions that enable interagency port partners to test, exercise, and evaluate plans, policies, and procedures to ensure adequate preparedness for each contingency being exercised.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position requires a Secret clearance.
- Time-in-grade requirements must be met by closing date.
- A one year probationary period maybe required.
Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-12: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lowest grade level (GS-11 level) in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Specialized experience includes experience that involved extensive operational experience in Emergency Management such as: Applicant MUST MEET both conditions below. Resume MUST demonstrate that you have met the specialized experience.
Experience in the design, development, conduct, evaluation, and after-action report writing for all-hazards contingency exercises at the local, regional, and national levels; AND
Developing contingency exercises that provide conditions to test and evaluate plans, policies, and procedures to ensure adequate preparedness for each contingency being exercised.
There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
