You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN in the NAVY FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES (F&ES) of NAS JRB NEW ORLEANS.

Duties

You will comply with health and safety rules and procedures while treating victims. You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires. You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident. You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft).

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position. This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • The employee is required to take and pass an occupational physical prior to employment, and then an annual occupational health examination thereafter, as a condition of employment.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • The employee must wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. In accordance with NFPA 1582 and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/ brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications***For the GS-07 the incumbent must possess the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, ARFF Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician, Driver Operator-Aerial, Driver Operator-ARFF, and Driver Operator-Pumper. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician and First Responder (CPR). The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained with 24 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: If applicable, Land Based Marine Firefighter Certification.
