You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in the FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAS JRB NEW ORLEANS.
Duties
You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations.
You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire.
You will use hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete an initial hazardous materials incident analysis. You will prepare patients for transport to medical facilities.
You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- Employee will be required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
- Shall be required to participate on a Hazardous Materials Team (HAZMAT).
- Must participate in the fitness/Wellness Program in accordance with CBA.
- The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 48/72 schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing rescue operations; 2) Assisting in the reduction and elimination of potential fire hazards; 3) Operating a variety of firefighting vehicles, apparatuses, or equipment; and 4) Performing non-invasive emergency and medical procedures. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Fighter II, Driver/Operator Pumper, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Aerial, Driver/Operator ARFF, Confined Spaces; HAZMAT Materials Technician, HAZMAT Materials Incident Commander, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Life Support (NREMT-B). Copy of Certification MUST be submitted with your application. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
