Duties

1. Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the 26 Network Operations Squadron, Network Operations Flight, ensuring that network operation complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. 2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. 3. Represents 26th NOS with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. 4. Manages the AF WAN systems, designs and monitors new network systems, configures and installs network hardware/software, and maintains WAN Operations.

  • All new CES employees are required to complete a three-year CES trial period
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required
  • Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position

  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA (continued)
  • certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position

Qualifications

This is a GG-13 position in the Cyber Excepted Service (CES). The GG-13 duties for the "Supervision/Management" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. NOTE: You must meet both the Basic Qualifications and Specialized Experience requirements stated below: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: expert knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements; expert knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols typically found at base level; expert knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems and expert knowledge of complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Expert knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements. 2. Expert knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols typically found at base level. 3. Expert knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems and expert knowledge of complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems. 4. Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess information, plan the sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, and solve a variety of network problems; and to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective. 5. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of an organization. 6. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
