You will serve as a Machinist in the Production Trades Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will set up and perform machining operations on conventional and NC Machine Tools. You will use a variety of machine tool attachments and related equipment to preform precision machine work. You will manufacture, repair, and rebuild parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals and metal alloys. You will use blueprints, drawings and sketches, work documents, aircraft technical documents, manuals, bulletins and directives. You will utilize precision measuring instruments to maintain dimensions and tolerances, fits and finishes in processing work.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen Out Element for this position is the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Applying knowledge of all types of metals, metal alloys, and composite materials used in aircraft structures; 2) Performing machining processes/operations to include planning, laying out and setting-up of work; 3) Using various types of conventional and computer numerical control machine tools to perform machining operations; and 4) Interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, directives, technical specifications and trade mathematics.
